Balzac History of the holiday The tradition of celebrating Mother's Day dates back to the women's mysteries of ancient Rome, intended to honor the Great Mother - the goddess, the mother of all gods. From the 17th to the 19th centuries, the so-called “Mothering Sunday” was celebrated in Great Britain - the fourth Sunday of Lent, dedicated to honoring mothers throughout the country. In 1908, a young American woman, Anna Jervis, from Philadelphia, launched an initiative to honor mothers in memory of her mother, who died prematurely. Anna wrote letters to government agencies, legislative bodies, and prominent individuals with a proposal to devote one day a year to honoring mothers. Her efforts were crowned with success - in 1910, the state of Virginia was the first to recognize Mother's Day as an official holiday. In 1914, US President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday in May a national holiday in honor of all American mothers. Following the United States, 23 countries declared the second Sunday of May a holiday. In Greece, Mother's Day is celebrated on May 9th. The history of the holiday dates back to the times of ancient Greece, when the Greeks celebrated the day of the mother of all gods, Gaia, in the spring. In Ukraine, Mother's Day began to be celebrated back in 1929, but over time it was forgotten. Today this holiday is celebrated on the second Sunday of May, modestly, without celebrations. And in Armenia, April 7 is celebrated as Motherhood and Beauty Day, believing that they are inseparable. In Finland, Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. On this day, flags are hung, children prepare gifts for mothers, and fathers try their best in the kitchen on this day, each to the best of their abilities and capabilities. Grandmothers are also congratulated. A new holiday - Mother's Day - is gradually taking root in Russia. Established by the President of the Russian Federation on January 30, 1998, it is celebrated on the last Sunday of November. Among the many holidays celebrated in our country, Mother's Day occupies a special place. This is a holiday to which no one can remain indifferent. On this day I would like to say words of gratitude to all Mothers who give their children love, kindness, tenderness and affection. What does the word “mother” mean to each of us? Caring, smart, sweet, energetic. Mom is the most beloved, dear, close person. She will always help. I love my mother very much. Yes, yes, even if this is a hackneyed phrase, but it is true. I want her to know that for me she is the most dear person in the world, that I respect her and will always be grateful to her for everything that she has done and is doing for me. Mom is the most beautiful, important and dear person in the life of each of us . Mom gave us life and gave us a chance for life to be successful... Gentle, understanding, kind, fair, cheerful, beautiful, sunny, caring, strict. Mom is of great importance in my life. For me, my mother is the image of everything pure on Earth. My mother is a cheerful woman. We are like friends, she understands me and will always help. She is the best. For me, my mother is the most dear, caring and beloved person. The person who gave me life and is my support for the rest of my life. Mom is the greatest value in our life. Mom is the first word in our lives. Mom gave us this life. These are mainly married couples who cannot have children themselves, but really want to have them.
