History as a science
Teacher:
Today we begin a journey into the fascinating world of history.
We will be able to return to the distant past and get to know it. And what will help you and me with this? No, not a time machine. And the subject is “History”. This word is familiar to you. The word “history” has many meanings. The world, the state, and every person have their own “history”. You and I are beginning to study history as a science. If history is a science, what does it study? (Students offer their answers. Based on what has been said, the teacher summarizes):
History is the science of the past, descriptions and understanding of the past.
(Students write in a notebook:
History studies the past of human society, the life and activities of people in the past
).
Teacher:
How do we study history?
First, let us remember that there is world history, and there is domestic history. Think, guys, how these two “stories” differ (Students’ answers).
Teacher:
Guys, write in your notebook that world history studies the history of all peoples of the world, and domestic history studies the history of our country.
Let's remember with you the historical events of our country (Student answers)
. What national holiday do we celebrate on May 9? Do you know who Minin and Pozharsky are? Or have you heard about Peter I? But you will get to know this later. And we move on!
Teacher
.
Guys, the first stop on our big journey into history will be the history of the Ancient World. Tell me what does the word “Ancient” mean? (Students' answers).
Let us write that the History of the Ancient World studies
the distant past of peoples, states and countries
.
Teacher:
To study history, so-called
historical sources
. We need to stop here too. Remember, guys, that historical sources are everything that gives us information about the past. What sources are used? Let's write down the three big types of sources:
Historical sources
Oral Written Real
Teacher:
Guys, think and give me examples of different types of sources
(Students name by row: 1st row - oral, 2nd row - written, 3rd row - real).
Teacher:
Let's focus on material sources.
How do people find them to study history? One of the most important assistants of history – archeology – comes to their aid. Make a note that archeology is
a science that studies material historical sources and uses them to reconstruct the past of human society.
Teacher:
And the last station on our journey will be the source with which we will work all year - this is a textbook.
Let's look at it, what it looks like. The textbook consists of a table of contents and paragraphs. The table of contents contains all the topics for studying the history of the Ancient World. Skim the textbook. What can you find on its pages? (Students call)
III . SUMMARY AND HOMEWORK
