What kind of person is this? What did he admire? What did you strive for in your life? Maybe we should ask him himself?

The teacher introduces students to the statements of A. Green.

1) “I loved the sound of the forest, the smell of moss and grass, the diversity of flowers, the thickets of swamps that excite the hunter, the crackling of the wings of a wild bird, shots, creeping gunpowder smoke; loved to search and unexpectedly find” (A. Green. “Autobiographical Story”)

.

2) “The world is going downhill. Humanity is sliding into the abyss. As an honest pirate, I declare that I will never stop fighting for my right to breathe the fresh sea winds" (A. Green)

.

Contemporaries called Green differently: a dreamer, a good wizard, the Don Quixote of our time. What kind of life did a person live who left such a bright memory of himself? Students who have studied the writer’s biography will talk about this.

– What should a person be like who can do miracles? (“You need to stand with one foot on the ground, the other in the sky.”)

The topic of our lesson is “Victory of dreams over reality.” What do you think we will discuss in class?

Today we will get acquainted with one of A. Green’s works “Scarlet Sails”. But first, let's find out who he is, Alexander Green, what he admired, what he strived for in life. The girls prepared a short story about the difficult fate of the writer.

Biography of A. Green (background presentation)

Alexander Green is the pseudonym of the Russian writer Alexander Stepanovich Grinevsky. He was born on August 23, 1880 in a small town in the Vyatka province. Soon the Grinevsky family moved to Vyatka. The writer's father served exile here. He worked as an accountant in a hospital. The family was poor. His mother died early, and his stepmother did not love Alexander. Shy Sasha suffered from insults.

Studying for Alexander was also not easy. He grew up dreamy, impatient and absent-minded. I was interested in many things, but did not follow through. I studied poorly, but enthusiastically read the books of M. Reed and J. Verne. Since childhood, Alexander loved the sea and dreamed of it. He decides to leave. In Odessa, Green could not get a job for a long time. Finally he was hired as an apprentice on a ship without pay.

His first story is called "Reno Island". From this story Green began to publish regularly.

In 1912 Green came to St. Petersburg. Over the course of 5 years, the writer published several books of stories and 3 volumes of collected works. In 1923 he created the extravaganza story “Scarlet Sails”. When the writer was working on this work, he probably thought about happiness, so I took the words of the writer himself as the epigraph of the lesson: “Train your imagination and cherish your dreams.” Green began writing the story “Scarlet Sails” in St. Petersburg in 1920, when he wandered around the city and every night looked for accommodation with random people.

-The genre of the work is defined as extravaganza. How do you understand what an extravaganza is?

The guys were given an individual task, let's listen to how the meaning of this term is explained in the Great Soviet Encyclopedia, Explanatory Dictionary of the Russian Language, ed. S.I. Ozhegova, Wikipedia.

Wikipedia

– the use of magical elements to reveal the completeness of the plot, the main idea of the text).

-What conclusion can we draw about what an extravaganza is?

(An extravaganza is a magical fairy-tale spectacle)

In fact, the world of the story is like a fairy tale.

-The extravaganza begins with a description of Assol’s childhood. What was it like?

(My mother died early, my father, who made toys for sale, was raised by me. Longren told his daughter fantastic stories about toys and people’s lives)

-Why did Assol’s mother die?

(Having received no help from Menners, she was forced to go to the city in damp and cold weather, caught a cold and soon died)

But atrocities do not pass without a trace, and the one who refused help to someone in need may himself find himself in a similar situation.

-During the storm, Longren did not help Menners, who found himself in a boat without oars. How do you feel about this action of Longren? Why didn’t his fellow villagers understand him?

(Longren was filled at that moment with pain, resentment and a thirst for retribution for those who did not help his wife and indirectly became the culprit of her death)

-Little Assol is distinguished by a festive vision of life and miracle. Where does this come from?

(Influenced by my father’s stories and meeting with Egle)

Let's watch a fragment of the film "Scarlet Sails", the moment where Egle predicts Assol her future.

-What changed in Assol’s life after meeting the storyteller?

(She began to live the dream of meeting the prince; the residents of Kaperna began to say that Longren and his daughter had gone crazy)

The wise old man was not mistaken. Assol grows up and continues to live his dream. As in a fairy tale, the first meeting of Gray and Assol takes place.

-What feelings does Gray experience when he sees Assol sleeping?

(Great excitement, fell in love at first sight, leaves a ring on Assol’s finger)

-How does Arthur Gray fulfill Assol’s dream?

(Decides to change the color of the sails to scarlet. He visited three shops before he found the right shade)

-Find a description of the scarlet color that Gray was looking for.

-With all their differences, what unites Assol and Gray?

(We see that the heroes have a lot in common; they are kind and selfless, hardworking and both believe in a dream)

(Everyone was alarmed because they did not believe that something like this could ever happen. Everyone ran to the shore)

-Can we worry about the future of the heroes? Are they happy?

(The heroes are very happy and this is well-deserved happiness, since they are both open to love, kindness, forgiveness)

-What is the meaning of the title of the story? What are the scarlet sails a symbol of?

(Symbol of love and dreams, wish fulfillment)

Let's watch a fragment of the film in which we will see Assol's dream come true.

(4 min.)

Only dreamers can create miracles. If you take away a person’s dream and faith in miracles, then life will become uninteresting; the meaning and joy of life will disappear. Train your imagination and cherish your dreams.

Homework: answer the questions in writing:

  1. What signs of the extravaganza genre did you notice in the story?
  2. Is Gray right when he argues that one should “do so-called miracles with one’s own hands”?
