Progress of the lesson
The variety of names is very great, some names are common, some are rare, some names even outwardly suit a person, and some are not at all. Our country is a multinational state. The names of the people inhabiting it have various roots. Surely everyone wants to know what is the secret of the name that his parents gave him, with which he has been associated all his life..... Today we will all learn together what is the history and origin of names, what historical and social events influenced the origin of names in Russia, as well as many interesting and unusual things related to the concept of a name. (Slide 3)
Look carefully at the board. Here you see the names of our classmates. What a variety of names! From birth, our parents gave each of us a name that makes us special and emphasizes our individuality. But each name has its own meaning. Probably each of you has at least once wondered where your name came from, why you were called that way. Let's all look at the history of the origin of names together. (Slide 5)
First, let's remember the proverbs and sayings in which names appear. Who will remember more? Children give examples of proverbs and sayings, and also read examples from the board.
(Slide 6) What unusual names do you remember? Are there people with such names among your friends and acquaintances? Which names are common today and which are rare?
In ancient times, in primitive society, people had neither names nor surnames. In order to somehow stand out, people were called by some visible external characteristics that distinguished this particular person. It could be anything, everything that catches your eye: tall or short stature, hair color, a distinctive character trait and even place of residence, external resemblance to some animal or plant. Here are pictures of objects and phenomena that are well known to us. (Slide 8.9) Think about what name a person would be given in a primitive society if he were in any way connected with these objects.
After the adoption of Christianity in Rus', the situation changed. In the Russian Orthodox Church there were special books in which for each day of the year the names of the saints whom the church honors on that day were assigned. Such books were called saints. (Slide 10, 11) It was customary to give a newborn baby the name of one of the saints revered on the child’s birthday. This special rite was called baptism. It was believed that at baptism the child was given not only a name, but also a guardian angel who protected the person for the rest of his life. If the child’s parents did not agree with any of the names in the calendar and, contrary to custom, called him in their own way, then they said that such a person did not have a guardian angel, and this could threaten him with considerable troubles. The name Ivan was most often found in the calendar, so there were many Ivans in Rus'.
Foreigners often called Russian people “Russian Ivan.”
Now let's play and remember the names of Russian folk tales in which names appear. (Slide 12-14) Children give examples of the names of fairy tales or read examples from the board.
After the great October Socialist Revolution, the old social orders were abolished and even banned, and completely new names came into fashion. Registration of newborn children was now carried out by the Civil Registry Offices (which stands for “civil status registration”). Now parents could choose any name, and some of them were so inspired by new social changes, anticipation of universal happiness and prosperity, new scientific discoveries that they often came up with their own names. Sometimes such an “invented name” did not suit the person at all and did not combine with either his patronymic or surname. (Slide 15) There have been cases when a person was ashamed of his unusual name all his life and, hiding it, tried to change it at the first opportunity. What came out of this is very well characterized by the following poem by S. Ya Marshak “In Defense of Children.”
If only you are smart, You will not give the guys such intricate names as Proton and Atom.
The mother wanted to make friends with her blond daughter, so she decided to call her daughter Dictatorship.
Although her family called her Dita for short, she was angry with her parents for many years.
And one original, After reading the newspaper, he called his Son a Satellite, and called his Daughter a Rocket.
Let the father and mother understand that the ill-fated children will have to live with this nickname forever...
(Slide 16) Particularly unusual names are found all over the world, most often in southern countries. Such names are very often translated into Russian as whole sentences.
In the Russian city of Nizhny Tagil, parents named their daughter, who was born on Independence Day, Russia. In Russia there are also Angel, Wind, Will, Moon.
We return to our game again. Please remember as many song titles as possible in which names appear. (Slide 17). Children name their options or remember songs whose names are given on the board.
Now let's try to learn a few tongue twisters that contain names. (Slide 18)
Our names may be popular or not, fashionable or not, we may like them or not. The name given to us at birth by our parents, one way or another, influences our life, bringing into it a special meaning that we try to understand throughout our lives. We must treat it with special respect and take care of it.
I would like to end our lesson with a quatrain:
You have one name. It is given forever. Life is long, and that’s why you take care of it.
