Agnia Barto is the most famous and beloved childhood poet.
Children love her works because they are very easy and understandable. Almost all of her poems are fun and interesting. Agnia Barto spent her entire life trying to please children with her masterpieces. Her eternal themes were stories about the lives of children. She paid great attention to the actions of the children, clearly describing them. The writer clearly described the characters, especially their character traits. Almost all of the poems Barto wrote are suitable for preschool and school-age children. Conciseness, simplicity and clarity make her works surprisingly fascinating and memorable. The future outstanding poetess was born in 1906 in Moscow. Her maiden name was Volova, but she decided to keep her first husband's surname. Agnia Lvovna was from an educated and noble family. My father worked as a veterinarian, and my mother did household chores. Young Agnia spent her childhood in Moscow. Her father was often on the road, but in every way he tried to instill in the girl a love of literature, which he himself loved. Agnia’s relationship with her mother was not as warm as with her father. Agnia’s family at that time was considered wealthy; they could afford a nanny and governess for their daughter. Later, many years later, the woman who raised Agnia from childhood will become an excellent nanny for the children of the writer herself.

Agnia received her primary education at home, strictly under the supervision of her father. The father dreamed of his daughter performing on stage with the ballet. Therefore, from early childhood she was engaged in dancing. Agnia’s talent was not particularly noticeable in dancing, but she wrote poetry very well. Her father controlled her in this too, and demanded that the girl comply with all the requirements and canons of writing poetry. At the same time, Agnia most often went beyond poetic dimensions. Although, without knowing it, already at that moment, the future poetess was able to create precisely these distinctive features of her genre.

Barto studied at the gymnasium, after which she easily entered the choreographic school. Times were hard, and the girl had to find a job. After studying, Agnia gets a job in a ballet troupe. Already at the age of 19, Barto wrote a collection of his first poems and books. Now she has become an equal writer of this time. Popularity quickly overtook young Agnia. But her shyness and lack of courage left the girl in the eyes of other people as a modest and smart girl. She had no enemies, she lived only the way she knew how. She didn’t prove anything to anyone or impose anything on anyone. The first time Barto married early, to the writer Pavel Barto. The couple had a son, but their life together was not long. It must have been difficult for two creative people to get along, especially when the creative affairs of one of them took off. Barto's second and last husband was the famous Soviet energy engineer Andrei Shcheglyaev. In the second marriage a daughter was born.

Children's poems were published one after another. During the Great Patriotic War she wrote a lot of poetry. At his own request, he goes to the front to read his poems to the soldiers. She devoted a lot of topics to disadvantaged children who, having lost their parents, went to an orphanage. Agnia Barto worked for many years at Mayak radio.

Life seemed to be good for the family. The children were growing up, the war was nearing its end. In 1945, Agnia’s son dies, after this incident her life changed. She began to pay more attention to her husband and daughter and continued to write poems for children. Barto outlived her husband by 11 years; the poetess died in 1981. The daughter did not choose the way of life that her mother had; she followed in her father’s footsteps and became a candidate of technical sciences. Agnia Barto has passed away a long time ago, but her poems continue to bring joy to children.

Report by Agnia Barto

Each of us knows the poems “A bull walks, sways...” and “Our Tanya is crying loudly.” Almost every child knows the lines of these works. And all such masterpieces, light and simple, delighting children, were written by Agniya Lvovna Barto.

The famous writer was born into the family of a veterinarian in 1906. From childhood, her father sought to give her a complete education and predicted her to become a ballerina. She was taught foreign languages and social manners. Barto even studied for several years at a choreographic school, but then realized that her calling was literary creativity. After all, from an early age she was fond of reading books by Leo Tolstoy. Each poem she created was analyzed by her father and suggested where it needed to be improved. At the age of 19, her first volume of poetry was published, which was highly appreciated by her readers. However, Agniya Lvovna published not only poetic works, but also created, together with actress Rina Zelena, wonderful scripts for such films as “Black Kitten”, “Elephant and String”, “Alyosha Ptitsyn Develops Character”.

During the war years, she worked at a factory as a turner, and also wrote articles, poems and essays on military topics. The tragic fates worried the poetess so much that in 1947 she published Zvenigorod, which told the story of children who lost their parents during the war years. Barto spoke about children's destinies after visiting an orphanage in Zvenigorod. It was this work that helped one of the women find her daughter. Subsequently, Agniya Lvovna becomes the host of the radio program “Looking for a Man.” Later, the songs “Useful Goat” and “Amateur Fisherman”, based on Barto’s poems, were published. Throughout her life, she traveled to different countries and, writing down children's aphorisms and jokes, later included them in the collection “Translations from Children.” Barto died at the age of 75. Agnia Lvovna’s creativity is priceless, and is still liked not only by children, but also by adults.

Interesting Facts

  • There is confusion in the date of birth of Agnia Barto. She was “officially” born in 1906, but researchers believe it happened two years later. The confusion arose due to the fact that Barto, who experienced poverty and hunger early on, wanted to get a job, but she “lacked” a couple of years for this. So she falsified her metrics.
  • In her youth, Barto fell in love first with the poems of V.V. Mayakovsky, and then with him himself. She never dared to confess her feelings to him. They met often, but Mayakovsky never knew about Barto's love. One day he mentioned that he needed to write for children. Agnia did just that.
  • Barto rarely dedicated works to her own children. She preferred to look for her heroes in pioneer camps and schools. But the famous poem “Our Tanya is crying loudly” was dedicated to the poet’s daughter, Tatyana.
  • In 1937, A. Barto took part in the international congress, which took place in Spain during the Civil War. For some reason, the noise of explosions prompted the poet to purchase castanets. Ignoring the difficult situation in the city, Barto made her way to the store and made a purchase.
  • This act served as the basis for A. Tolstoy’s jokes. He periodically asked his colleague if she planned to purchase a fan for fanning herself during the next raids.
  • During the Great Patriotic War, Agnia Barto's family was evacuated to Sverdlovsk. There she had to master the profession of a turner. She worked along with those who had been standing at the machine for a long time. She was awarded a prize for her labor exploits during the war. But Barto refused the money, donating it for the construction of the tank.

Agnia Lvovna Barto belongs to this happy galaxy of beloved authors of children's books, whose poems, having become the property of millions of readers, became popular, entered the life and speech of modern people as proverbs, as sayings are like images that are close and familiar to everyone.
“When should I chat? I don’t have time to chat!”, “Lyoshenka, Lyoshenka, do me a favor...” What you remember and love in childhood, a person carries with him all his life. Children, growing up, retain their love for those first joys of the poetic word that the poet gave them. And that is why our poets writing for children are so popular in our country and far beyond its borders. Agnia Barto walks with her readers through all the stages of childhood; the poetess not only strives to open the world to the child - the world of toys, things, nature, people, but also to lay in the child’s soul the beginning of a moral attitude towards this world. Don’t abandon Teddy Bear with a torn paw, don’t forget the puppy, let the goldfinch get drunk, take care of the green lemon on the windowsill, look after someone else’s baby, who is only two years younger than you - all this becomes natural for the child and determines the nature of his actions in later life. . A. Barto “Toys”, read by students of grade 1 “B”

Barto always trusted children's abilities to perceive; she never believed that a child might not understand something.
She did not try to explain to the children what was appropriate for their age, she gave them what they should grow into. She gave it in such an easy, accessible form that it seemed that completely difficult ideas were simply lying on the surface, and any child would understand what they wanted to tell him. And most importantly, he will correctly understand sometimes very difficult but useful things that can become the starting point in the fate of a new person. A. Barto “Not Alone”, read by students of grade 1 “B”

Agnia Barto's children's poems are pieces of a puzzle called life.
And this is clearly visible when you read the collected works of the writer. Perhaps that’s why Agnia Barto’s poems for little ones are also relevant for today’s kids. The basic principles of life are eternal and do not depend on the conditions of a particular time. At all times, the ability to joke well, and even joke with children, was valued... But Agnia Barto’s humor is really close to young readers. A. Barto “Pancakes”, read by Valeria Tsystar, student of 4th “A” class

Are children able to understand humor?
- many adults think. Barto answered this question long ago with satirical quatrains. It is simply impossible to love something that is not understood. And the youngest children still love to read Agnia Barto’s poems and still understand them. Making a child laugh with the written word is something only a truly talented poet can do. Teaching serious things with the help of humor and laughter is something only a few people can do. A. Barto “A Polite Act”, read by 1st grade student Ksenia Znamenshchikova
Agnia Barto’s humor does not offend or hurt.
The writer helps you understand that all the bad things that were ridiculed in the poems are left behind, and there is another good life ahead with actions that you can be proud of. After all, a little person cannot yet be bad, he is just learning to live. This means that everything is fixable, the child will look with humor at the fact that he saw bad things in himself and will definitely improve.
