How do children learn about smoking?
According to Article 16 of the Federal Law of February 23, 2013 No. 15-FZ “On protecting the health of citizens from the effects of environmental tobacco smoke and the consequences of tobacco consumption,” advertising, sponsorship and promotion of tobacco sales are prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation. And the sale of tobacco products is carried out from closed boxes in such a way that no one, especially children, can see what products are displayed there. I think many people have noticed that modern films, including foreign ones, do not contain scenes of smoking. So where do children most often learn about the existence of tobacco products? Absolutely right, from those around you!
Therefore, first of all, parents should not be an advertisement for this stupid, meaningless and harmful activity. The point is that the child follows the example, not the words. You can often see how similar children grow up to their parents, even those who strongly disagree with their way of life. Indeed, it is easier to answer a child’s question: “Why does that uncle smoke?” than to answer the question: “Why does dad smoke?” Or even worse: “Why do you smoke?” You can say about that uncle that he doesn’t know something or is sick, but to say that about your father or mother means to undermine the authority of the parent. Children are designed in such a way that they do not understand how an intelligent person can be stupid in some way at the same time. If a child accepts someone as an authority, then all his actions automatically become correct and worthy of imitation. But once you miss, either the person loses authority in the child’s eyes, or the wrong action is included in the “allowed” list.
You should not wait until the child has already entered adolescence or you accidentally discovered him smoking. It is better to immerse children in a healthy, interesting environment from childhood. As early as possible, start traveling to places where families who share your healthy lifestyle values gather. Then, from an unconscious age, the child will see that there are many adequate healthy people around. And for him this will be the norm. Perhaps he will make friends here, and thanks to the Internet they will be able to support each other from a distance. It is important to help a child find a circle of like-minded people at an early age. In this case, in the future he will be drawn to more sensible guys.
The main role of parents is to instill correct and high values in their children! They will largely determine the course of his future life. The child must understand that being healthy is the norm, and smoking is not normal under any circumstances.
Conversation about the dangers of smoking
They start smoking out of stupidity,
They don’t quit out of weakness of spirit.
Of my smoking friends
EVERYONE has either quit smoking or is quitting now.
V. Platonov
More and more people in Russia are giving up cigarettes. Fewer and fewer smokers.
Cigarettes do not destroy families like drugs and alcohol, and are not punishable by law. But they are widely (and quite subtly) advertised and sold everywhere. They do not cause terrible withdrawal symptoms, like after a binge. And yet, most people who smoke try to get rid of this habit.
Cigarettes are the most dangerous drug. Why?
If you smoke, you don't grow up. If you smoke, you get old. You're getting outdated! Why start if you'll give up for the rest of your life?
Watch your friends who smoke if you don't smoke, or yourself if you do smoke.
See how long a smoker can last without a cigarette? Well, twenty minutes, well, half an hour, at most an hour. What then? A smoker is constantly drawn to smoke.
And if he doesn’t smoke, then his mood will definitely change: vigor and a cheerful spirit will be replaced by gloom, depression, a dull spirit, then aggression, screaming, and incontinence. In the end, the smoker will find himself a cigarette, and immediately his mood lifts. Again joy, jokes, laughter.
Changes in well-being and mood.
Why is this happening?
Because cigarettes are short-acting drugs.
And they act through the absorption of tobacco smoke into the lungs.
And from there, chemicals, mainly nicotine, penetrate the blood, giving short-term euphoria, mild intoxication, intoxication and calm. But, as soon as the chemical substances that entered the bloodstream through a puff on a cigarette disintegrated, the effect of the soft drug through cigarettes stopped, and post-intoxication syndrome immediately sets in, that is, withdrawal. In smokers, this is expressed in poor health, nervousness, irritation, and anger.
The next cigarette only eliminates withdrawal symptoms and the smoker seems to feel better.
If a drug addict injects once or twice a day (and even then while there is money), an alcoholic drinks for a week, maximum ten days (then a break, otherwise he will die), then a smoker does not give himself a day off. Even at night, while sleeping, suddenly waking up, he runs to a cigarette. And this hidden enemy lives in hundreds of millions of people, pretending that he is a friend of people. Why are cigarettes the enemy of man? From a medical point of view, it is a slow-acting poison that destroys the entire body.
Smoking is not a harmless activity
, which can be thrown effortlessly.
This is a real drug addiction
, and all the more dangerous because many do not take it seriously.
Why start if you'll give up for the rest of your life?
Nicotine is one of the most dangerous poisons of plant origin.
Birds die if you just bring a glass rod soaked in nicotine to their beak. A rabbit dies from 1/4 drop of nicotine, a dog from 1/2 drop. For humans, the lethal dose of nicotine is 50 to 100 mg, or 2-3 drops. This is the dose that enters the blood every day after smoking 20-25 cigarettes (one cigarette contains approximately 6-8 mg of nicotine, of which 3-4 mg enters the blood).
The smoker does not die because the dose is administered gradually, not in one go. In addition, part of the nicotine neutralizes formaldehyde, another poison contained in tobacco.
Over the course of 30 years, such a smoker smokes approximately 20,000 cigarettes, or 160 kg of tobacco, absorbing an average of 800 g of nicotine. By the way, with the money that a smoker spends a year on cigarettes, you can have a great rest in the summer
. For example, go abroad, to Austria or the Czech Republic.
Systematic absorption of small, non-lethal doses of nicotine causes addiction to smoking. Nicotine is included in the metabolic processes occurring in the human body and becomes necessary.
However, if a non-smoker receives a significant dose of nicotine in one dose, death can occur.
People living in smoky rooms suffer more often and more severely from respiratory diseases.
Tobacco smoke delays the sun's ultraviolet rays, which are important for your body, and worsens your metabolism. The ability to perform physical activities that require endurance and effort decreases.
Scientists from many countries have found that nicotine and dry particles of tobacco smoke contribute to the development of many allergic diseases.
. (Even if you don't smoke, but are near a smoker).
In the USA they even call a cigarette a sign of bad luck. Your smoking primarily affects the nervous and cardiovascular systems. At the age of 12-15, people already complain of shortness of breath during physical activity.
Smoking negatively affects success in everything.
And in sports! And in studies! And in hobbies! A cigarette slows down any development. The number of underachievers increases in those classes where there are more smokers. The state of health undermined by smoking does not allow you to choose an occupation to your liking, achieve success and feel calm and happy.
Even 100 years ago, as a result of many years of observations, the French doctor Decaline came to the conclusion that even rare smoking causes anemia and digestive disorders.
The school years are years of growth, when your future health is laid out. What do you want it to be? To have your life unbalanced and colored in shades of grey?
A cigarette is the first loss of your independence and free will. It's easy to stay free! Don’t start something that you will abandon for the rest of your life.
How to explain to children of preschool - middle school age about the dangers of smoking
When we talk about children, it is important to understand what age we are talking about. Since a child of three years old and a child of twelve are “heaven and earth.” But to a young man of eighteen, such elementary things are not explained by his parents, since he is already a fairly formed person.
If we are dealing with a child under 6 years old, then everything should be clear. Everyone knows the poem “What is good and what is bad.” This is typical childish thinking - no advaita, everything is demarcated. A negative character is negative to the end, a positive character does not do bad things. When this distinction is well mastered, by the age of 6–7 years, children develop an understanding of cause-and-effect relationships. A child can trace, for example, why a character turns from good to bad and vice versa. To explain to a child what not to do, you need to do the opposite: tell him how to do it correctly. This is a common mistake when a parent explains in detail and emotionally what not to do, without understanding that they are giving detailed instructions for action. Therefore, you need to shift the child’s attention as much as possible in a positive direction. Instead of: “Don’t do this, don’t go there,” you need to say: “Do this, go here.”
When a child reaches the age of 7, you can begin to explain to him the negative consequences of actions. Until this age, play plays a huge role in his life, that is, modeling situations. Therefore, it will be most effective not to explain in words, but to present information in a playful form. A cartoon can also be effective, but it’s a high-quality cartoon! For example, in the cartoon “Well, wait a minute!” The wolf is almost always with a cigarette. Moreover, complete instructions are shown on how and where to get it: the wolf kicks the trash can, a bullock with garbage spills out of it, which he lights. Obviously, this cartoon should not be shown - most likely, you will get the opposite effect. A good example of a cartoon is the film “The Secret of Acrid Smoke” (project “Common Cause”), which can be shown to older preschoolers and elementary school students.
If at an early age children need to divide everything into good and bad, prohibit something, allow something, be a fairly authoritarian parent, then starting from the age of 6-7 it is necessary to begin to form friendly relationships. The child can already explain why he thinks this way or does certain things, and this may be a completely reasonable interpretation. The transition to friendly, confidential communication is important for building further relationships, forming adequate attachment, on the basis of which the child will listen to the advice of his parents. Thus, with children from 7 to 10-11 years old, you can have serious conversations about the dangers of smoking, show videos and printed materials.
How to explain to a teenager that smoking is harmful
The situation is much more difficult with adolescents - children who have entered puberty, or puberty. This is especially difficult for parents who have failed to establish a trusting relationship with their child. At this time, hormones influence his behavior, egocentrism is highly developed. It seems to teenagers that the world revolves exclusively around their person, all feelings and concerns take on the meaning of a planetary order, which in the world is called youthful maximalism. Unfortunately, now society does not dictate rules of behavior for this category, in every possible way fueling the development of an unhealthy attitude towards the world and oneself. Moreover, modern trends are aimed at keeping adolescents at this level of consciousness for as long as possible. Therefore, you can see 30-35 year old “teenagers” with appropriate behavior, unwillingness to bear responsibility and indulging their passions. Let's return to our topic.
It is still possible to influence teenagers, but this should be done delicately and carefully. You need to understand that children often smoke out of a desire to seem like adults or out of idleness. But for the most part, smoking is not so fashionable. It's fashionable to be sporty. However, if a child feels lonely, he has no hobbies, his parents don’t care where he disappears all day, what he lives and is interested in, most likely he will smoke with the same street children from the yard. If a child has already started smoking, and his parents have no influence on him, then you can contact a representative of “Common Cause” in your region with a request to hold conversations about a healthy lifestyle at the school where he studies. You can also contact a person with whom the child has developed a trusting relationship and ask for assistance. Representatives of the Allen Carr Center, author of the book “The Easy Way to Quit Smoking,” advise when explaining to children about the dangers of smoking to emphasize that they have been deceived by tobacco corporations that simply want to make more money and are not interested in their health or coolness. It makes sense to explain what the cigarette consists of, that chemical components that cause drug addiction are specially added to it. And this is done deliberately in order to increase corporate revenue. There is also a film about this with Russell Crowe, “The Insider,” based on real events. It is worth emphasizing the pointlessness of smoking rather than its harm.
I repeat that it is easier to prevent smoking than to have conversations with a teenager who is already smoking. Prevention can include various videos, conversations, encouraging sports preferences, meeting interesting people who lead a healthy lifestyle. I would like to emphasize that smoking parents have no chance to explain to their child that smoking is unwise. After all, harm occurs not only from independent smoking, but also from passive inhalation of smoke. How can a father tell his children about the dangers of smoking if he himself poisons them every day? Moreover, children of smokers may develop an addiction, and in the future passive smoking will be replaced by active smoking, simply because there is no smoking father nearby, and you need to cope with the addiction yourself.
Finally, I have a request to parents - be sure to make comments to people who smoke near your children. It is absolutely normal to protect the health of your family and friends. Children will see your reaction and know that you care about them, and it will be ingrained in their minds that smoking is something that they need to protect themselves and others from.

"The History of Tobacco"
“Imagine the sea...America...15th century...the navigator Christopher Columbus and his companions, having landed on an unfamiliar shore, see that the natives - adults and children - are holding in their teeth smoking bunches of smoldering leaves of a plant unknown to Europeans. It turned out that savages traditionally use its leaves for frequent inhalation of smoke. The plant is today known as "tobacco". It was from here that tobacco came to Europe. Soon tobacco appeared in France: Jean Nicot, a former ambassador to Spain, brought tobacco leaves and seeds from there as a gift to his queen Catherine. The word “nicotine” comes from Niko’s surname, which is the name given to the main component of tobacco.
Gradually, smoking reached Russia; Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov was the king at that time. He began to wage a brutal fight against smokers: those who were addicted to this addiction were punished once with canes on the feet - 60 blows; 2 times - by cutting off the nose or ears, and sent to distant cities. After a devastating fire in Moscow, which was caused by smoking, it was banned under penalty of death.
