Grandparents Day (6+)

HomeNews

28 In October 2020, the Russian Federation celebrated one of the most wonderful and very sincere holidays - the Day of Grandparents of Russia, our relatives and loved ones, without whose participation often no childhood can be considered complete, the most vivid and memorable.

For the first time, International Grandparents Day was celebrated in Russia in 2009. October 28 is the time when every grandchild, no matter what his age, can thank his beloved “educators” for their care and warmth. On International Grandparents Day, it is customary to present loved ones with a houseplant or flower; such a gift is symbolic, it reminds of the care and tenderness that grandparents give to their grandchildren.

Therefore, on October 24, in the Creative Workshop of the Abashevskaya Library, the guys decided to make a Festive tree that personifies love, respect and veneration of loved ones.

The Inspiration library has organized an original game-mood exhibition about the wise generation, “Grandparents in Favorite Literature.” The shelves display works by Russian and foreign authors: L. Kuzmin “Baba Yaga and her granddaughters Yagobutterflies”, L. Lagin “Old Man Hottabych”, T. Kanazawa “How Grandmother Was a Steam Locomotive”, E. Uspensky “Plastic Grandfather”, M. Lobbe “Grandma on the Apple Tree” and other colorful publications, each of which is executed in the author’s unique style. The heroes of the books are not ordinary grandparents, but talented, restless, unusual, fairy-tale characters. Each edition is filled with bright illustrations, and exciting stories will appeal to young readers.

Librarian Natalya Anatolyevna Telenkova supplemented the exhibition with interesting game elements. A Grandmother's Riddle basket, a crossword puzzle, a family reading tree and a sweet “Mood Improver” box are waiting for you. The Family Reading Tree survey asks readers to indicate their family’s favorite works. Based on the materials from the completed questionnaires, an exhibition “Our Favorite Books” will be organized in the “Inspiration” library.

Few of us, in the hustle and bustle of our days, in the frantic flow of the present time, think about our health. Only when illness knocks us down or old age sets in do we begin to think about the carelessly lived years. We tell each other a standard set of wishes: “Health! Happiness! For long years! Good luck!". And then we forget about them. And health is a treasure that needs to be protected every day.

On October 24, a meeting of the “Velvet Season” club was held in the Information and Leisure Center. “The Path of Health” was the name of the discussion hour for pensioners in the village of Abagur. This event required preliminary preparation, both on the part of librarians and the club members themselves. The librarians prepared a review of the books “How to Stay Healthy,” held a short quiz after the review, and even did some comic exercises with the guests. Club members received a new book about a healthy lifestyle in advance, read them and shared their acquired knowledge. After this, an active discussion began: how to eat properly, fasting is beneficial or harmful, whether to have dinner or not, how to maintain a healthy lifestyle not in words, but in deeds.

Take care of your health from a young age. Of course, this saying was invented for a reason. But old age in our time is not a reason to give up on yourself. In addition, older people have a lot of free time. At the end of the meeting, the club members concluded: life in retirement allows you to acquire new healthy habits and part with old, unhealthy ones. You can take more walks with your grandchildren, tend to your garden, leisurely cook delicious and healthy meals, read, actively communicate, and such meetings in the library give a lot of positive emotions.
