Summary of educational lesson "In the kingdom of stars"

At different times of the year there are different constellations in the sky

The starry sky is observed day and night, summer and winter. And since we all know that the Earth rotates not only around its axis, but also around the Sun, the location of the constellations changes and new ones can be seen .

Only the North Star remains motionless; it is convenient to start observing the starry sky from it. It is only 1° from the north pole, and therefore remains in place at any time of the year. All other stars move across the sky according to their usual plan, like the Sun.

In ancient times, rotating constellations were used to mark the season in regions when the same weather could not convey temporal changes. Scientists suggest that the mysterious marks in the Lascaux cave in the south of France could mean changes in the location of the constellations. This star map was created 17,000 years ago.

What it is

Children see groups of stars as interesting, simple patterns. At all times, our ancestors watched them and did it with special trepidation. And for some peoples such actions have become a tradition. People who lived on planet Earth before us believed that celestial images usually mean certain heroes, for example, gods and goddesses. They are all connected with stories that have been passed down from one generation to another.

To explain to children in detail what groups of stars are, you can show them the most common objects; this does not require special equipment. For example, with the naked eye you can observe the constellations Sagittarius, Aries, Cassiopeia, Cygnus and many others. However, as technical devices developed, astronomers realized that the shining lights were not gods, but stars.

Until 1925, an organization called the International Astronomical Union established 88 constellations. And they are officially recognized by absolutely all astronomers in the world. If you look at their shape, you can’t immediately understand why the names are what they are. Therefore, children should be given certain explanations and told that the form does not always 100% reflect the given name.
