"ALICE IN WONDERLAND" BY LEWIS CARROLL

Slide 2

Lewis Carroll pseudonym Charles Lutwidge Dodgson Lewis Carroll (1832-1898). He was not a professional writer, he taught mathematics and was engaged in special research. But the books he created “Alice in Wonderland” (1865) and “Alice Through the Looking Glass” (1872) became classics of English and world children's literature and brought him much more popularity than scientific works. Cheerfulness is given only in childhood, when the whole world is new and beautiful and when grief and sin are just words, empty sounds that mean nothing! Lewis Carroll.

Slide 3

How did the nickname Lewis a Carroll A come about? How did the pseudonym Lewis Carroll come about? Dodgson simply took his real name, “Charles Lutwidge,” and did hocus pocus with it: first he translated it into Latin, which turned out to be “Carolus Ludovicus,” then he swapped the words around and quickly (while no one noticed) translated them back into English. As a result, instead of the boring Charles Lutwidge, he received the eccentric and cheerful Lewis Carroll, as well as world fame to boot. “Do you want to lose your name? “No,” Alice was scared. - Of course I don’t want to! “And in vain,” said Komar casually. “Think how convenient that would be!”

Slide 4

The number of translations of “Alice in Wonderland” There is a record number of translations of “Alice in Wonderland” in the world - the book has been translated into 125 languages. The total number of editions of “Alice in Wonderland” in the world is approaching a thousand. The first edition of the book “Alice in Wonderland” was published 150 years ago by the British publishing house Macmillan. The first Russian translation, made by an anonymous translator, was printed in the printing house of A.I. Mamontov in Moscow in 1879 and was called “Sonya in the kingdom of the diva.”

Slide 5

Reaction to the book from literary critics! The first literary critics of "Alice" were not up to par. The enormous popularity of “Alice” not only among children, but also among adults indicated that something hitherto unprecedented had appeared in English literature. However, even ill-wishers, and soon the tone of criticism changed. “We believe that any child will be more likely to wonder what to enjoy after reading this unnatural fairy tale overloaded with all sorts of oddities...”

Slide 6

A play on words in the work or simply “Pun” ... Translation of “Alice in Wonderland” into Russian (and other languages) is complicated by Carroll’s abundant use of puns, understandable only to English-speaking readers. For example, the March Hare and the Hatter are characters from English sayings that have no analogues in the Russian language. And yet, about 13 translations into Russian are known. “We call him the octopus because he walks with a twig.” At the request of Carroll’s favorite Alice Liddell, the tale he told was carefully rewritten, illustrated with 37 drawings, bound in green leather and presented to her as a Christmas gift.

Slide 7

Who is Alice Liddell? Alice Liddell was the daughter of the dean of an Oxford college. Dodgson met their family and communicated with Alice for many years. The writer told the original version of his fantastic story to the three Liddell sisters during a boat trip on the Thames. The main character was very similar to one of the girls, and the other sisters were given secondary roles. He gave the girl the first handwritten version of the book “Alice's Adventures Underground.” 64 years later, 74-year-old Alice put the valuable gift up for auction and received £15,400 for it. Alice Liddell is the prototype for the Alice character.

Slide 8

Interesting facts about Lewis Carroll 1. In English-speaking countries, Carroll's fairy tales occupy third place. The first 2 places were taken by the Bible and the works of Shakespeare. 2. There is a type of migraine called Alice in Wonderland syndrome. A headache attack in this case is accompanied by additional symptoms - the so-called aura. 3. At the age of 29, Carroll started a journal in which he recorded all incoming and outgoing correspondence. Over 37 years of keeping the journal, 98,921 letters were recorded. 4. Lewis Carroll was one of the suspects in the case of serial killer Jack the Ripper, who was never found. 5. The minor planet 17942 Whiterabbit was named after the White Rabbit.

Slide 9

“Catchphrases” If every person minded his own business, the Earth would spin faster. The best way to explain is to do it yourself. You know, one of the biggest losses in battle is losing your head. She always gave herself good advice, even though she didn't follow it often. Just think that because of some thing you can shrink so much that you turn into nothing. If everything in the world is meaningless, said Alice, what’s stopping you from inventing some meaning?

Slide 10

... T HE E ND... “My life is surprisingly free from all sorts of worries and troubles” C. L. Dodgson. Throughout his life, Dodgson published 256 books, and only “A Fox” brought him fame. No wonder one of his former students exclaimed in amazement: “Who would have thought that this “cracker”, whose lectures I fell asleep in, could write such a fascinating thing!".

Presentation game “Do you know the inhabitants of Wonderland?” based on the tale by L. Carroll

The wonderful world of Lewis Carroll has enchanted both adults and children for more than one hundred and fifty years. Books about Alice are read all over the world. Carroll's creations are a mixture of parody and fairy tale. Traveling through the pages of his works, we find ourselves in an incredible world of fantasy, so close to both our dreams and the realities of our everyday life.

Numerous translations have been made of this tale; a rare book has the honor of being translated many times by different translators. Moreover, they seem to be secretly competing with each other to see who can translate Carroll’s text better, more original, and more unusually. I recommend introducing children to the difficult text of an English mathematics professor in the classic translation by Boris Zakhoder, a master of poetic puns and a keen expert on the English and Russian languages.

Lewis Carroll's fairy tale "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" is included in the "Thoughtful Reading" program in 4th grade, in section 3 "Fantasyland". You can read my article about the author of the book, Lewis Carroll.

In the textbook “Reader's Portfolio for 4th grade” on the topic “More and more curious.” The most unusual fairy tale" there are many game tasks, quizzes, and tests that help fourth-graders get acquainted with this world-famous and very difficult book with interest. The scene is designed like a clearing: tree, stump, flowers. On the back is an image of a door with a lot of locks and bolts. Also on the backstage and at the front of the stage are hung multi-colored cardboard gloves with bright ornaments. appears on the stage .
— Ch. k:
Hello, guys!
Do you know the fairy tale about Alice? Do you want me to tell it to you? After all, in my fairy tale, amazing adventures await Alice, and, of course, she cannot do without your help. So, one day Alice was sitting in a clearing with her older sister. The sun was so hot that Alice began to feel sleepy. But suddenly... (the White Rabbit runs onto the stage) - B. Kr:
My ears, my ears!
My paws, my paws! How late I am, how late I am! The Queen orders my head to be cut off! (runs out the “door”, at the same moment Alice runs in) - Alice:
Mr. Rabbit, Mr. Rabbit!
Well, he ran away! (notices the Cheshire cat) Hello, pussy. Did you see where the White Rabbit ran off to? (The Cheshire cat shows the direction, Alice approaches the door and tries to open it). It’s strange, nothing works... - Ch.k:
You won’t be able to open this door, because you don’t have a magic key.
Alice:
What to do?
I really want to meet the White Rabbit! — Ch.k:
Don’t be upset, Alice. I know who will help you. In our hall there are many children who know how to have fun: sing, dance, recite poetry, perform on stage. And I think that with their help we can bring back the White Rabbit. The first one who will help us do this is,,,,,,,,,,,,,(speech __________________)(several numbers)

I am Alice.
