The game “Believe it or not” based on H. C. Andersen’s fairy tale “The Snow Queen” for 5th grade students

Target:

  • organize game activities for students to test the knowledge gained from studying the fairy tale “The Snow Queen”.

Description of the game.

The class is divided into two teams. As homework, it is proposed to come up with 5 questions for the rival team based on the fairy tale by H.-K. Andersen's "The Snow Queen".

The game consists of several rounds. In the first round, the teacher asks questions for both teams, each question must begin with the words “Do you believe that...” Participants must give a monosyllabic answer “yes” or “no” and justify it. The point of the first round is not so much to identify the winner, but to test knowledge of the content of the fairy tale in an unconventional form.

Progress of the game

First tour

For each correct answer the team receives 1 point.

1. Do you believe that the fragments of the devil's mirror fell only into the eyes and hearts of people?

Answer.

No. There were fragments so large that they could be inserted into frames instead of ordinary glass. But you shouldn’t look at your good friends through windows with such “glass.” Other fragments were inserted into glasses. But as soon as people put on such glasses in order to see things better and judge them more accurately, trouble came.

2. Do you believe that Kai and Gerda could get to visit each other in the summer with just one jump, and in the winter they had to first go down many steps and then go up the same number?

Answer.

Yes. The parents of these children lived right under the roof - in the attics of two adjacent houses, which stood so close to each other that their roofs almost touched. The windows of one family looked at the windows of another, and under the windows, along the walls of both houses, there was a groove. Thus, one only had to step over it to get to the neighbors who lived opposite.

3. Do you believe that Kai began to imitate his grandmother, and then all his neighbors, because he was poorly brought up?

Answer.

No. One day, when the children were looking at a picture book, Kai felt a prick in his heart and something got into his eye. It was a tiny fragment of the devil's mirror.

4. Do you believe that Kai came to the palace of the Snow Queen on foot?

Answer.

No. Kai was riding his sled in a large area when a large white sled appeared there. Kai quickly attached his sled to them and rolled off. The sleigh rushed faster across the square and turned into an alley, and then drove out of the city outpost. The Snow Queen, who was sitting in the sleigh, put Kai in the sleigh, wrapped him in her fur coat, and they flew to the Snow Queen's palace.

5. Do you believe that the old woman in the hat painted with wonderful flowers was an evil witch?

Answer.

No. She was not an evil witch and cast spells occasionally, only for her own pleasure. And now she cast a spell because she really wanted to keep this cute girl.

6. Do you believe that Gerda, living with the old woman, remembered Kai when she saw the roses on the old woman’s hat?

Answer.

Yes. When the old woman wanted to keep Gerda, she drove all the rose bushes deep, deep into the black soil in her flower garden, and forgot to erase the rose on her straw hat. When Gerda looked at the wonderful hat, she saw a rose on it, which was more beautiful than all other flowers, and remembered Kai.

7. Do you believe that when Gerda ran away from the old woman’s magical garden, it was still the same summer outside the flower garden?

Answer.

No. Summer has already passed, late autumn has come, but in the old woman’s magical garden, where the sun always shone and flowers of all seasons bloomed, this was not noticeable.

8. Do you believe that a deer brought Princess Gerda to the palace?

Answer.

No. Gerda was brought to the palace where the prince and princess lived by a forest raven and his bride, a tame crow.

9. Do you believe that Kai married the princess?

Answer.

No. A young man who only resembled Kai in the back of his head married the princess. He was poorly dressed, his boots creaked loudly, and he did not come to the princess to woo, but only to listen to her clever speeches. He liked the princess's speeches, and the princess liked him.

10. Do you believe that Gerda was sent to further search for Kai on a carriage made of pure gold, with the coats of arms of the prince and princess shining like stars?

Answer.

Yes. In addition, Gerda was given coachmen, footmen and postilions, and the carriage was chock-full of sugar pretzels, and the box under the seat was filled with fruit and gingerbread.

11. Do you believe that Gerda came to the Snow Queen’s palace on the golden carriage that the prince and princess gave her?

Answer.

No. The robbers who lived in the dark forest took the carriage and killed the coachman, postilions and servants.

12. Do you believe that the little robber reacted with sympathy to Gerda’s story about Kai?

Answer.

Yes. When Gerda told her that she was looking for Kaya, the little robber looked at Gerda seriously and said that she would not allow the robbers to kill the girl, and decided to let Gerda go.

13. Do you believe that the little robber returned all her things to Gerda? Answer.

No. She gave her fur boots to keep her feet warm, but she kept the fur muff for herself. In exchange, she gave fur mittens to her mother.

14. Do you believe that the little robber ordered the reindeer to take Gerda to the Snow Queen's palace?

Answer.

Yes. The little robber released the reindeer into the wild in Lapland, but in exchange for this the deer had to carry out the order of the little robber.

15. Do you believe that the Finnish woman brewed a drink for Gerda that would give the strength of a dozen heroes so that the girl could defeat the Snow Queen?

Answer.

No. The Finnish woman could not make Gerda stronger than she was. Gerda's strength was already great. After all, people and animals served her. Her strength is that she is an innocent, sweet child. If she herself cannot penetrate the palace of the Snow Queen and remove the mirror fragments from Kai’s eyes and heart, then no one will be able to do this.

16. Do you believe that Gerda was able to remove the mirror fragments from Kai’s eyes and heart?

Answer.

Yes. When Gerda saw the motionless and cold Kai in the middle of the large snowy hall, she threw herself on his neck, hugged him tightly and burst into tears. Gerda's hot tears fell on Kai's chest, penetrated his heart, melted the icy crust, and the fragment melted. Gerda sang a psalm about roses and Christ, Kai burst into tears, and sobbed so violently that a splinter fell out of his eye - it was washed away by his tears.

17. Do you believe that Kai himself formed the word “eternity” from pieces of ice?

Answer.

No. Kai couldn’t manage to form the word “eternity” from the ice floes, but after the fragment fell out of Kai’s eyes and he recognized Gerda, Gerda’s joy was so great that even the ice floes began to dance, and when they got tired, they lay down and composed this very word.
