“Now this type of writing can be left to me

"- noted A.S.
Pushkin shortly after the publication of the fairy tale in verse “The Little Humpbacked Horse” in 1834.
Its author was a student of the Faculty of Philosophy and Law of St. Petersburg University
P.P.
Ershov , who wrote his fairy tale under the impression of Pushkin’s fairy tales. And it was a course work on Russian literature for student Pyotr Ershov, which, instead of the prescribed lecture, was read to his students by professor poet Pyotr Pletnev on one of the school days. Overnight, an unknown nineteen-year-old student became a famous writer throughout Russia. This is how a funny fairy tale appeared, full of amazing adventures and fabulous miracles and at the same time very truthfully reflecting the difficulties of peasant life. In “The Little Humpbacked Horse,” as in ancient folk tales, the stupid tsar, his envious associates and greedy servants are wittily ridiculed, and the brave, honest peasant son is glorified. And the fairy tale was written in Russian folk language, bright and apt.

However, Ershov did not become a professional writer. After university in 1836 he returns to his homeland, to Siberia, where 1815

year he was born in the village of
Bezrukovo
in the family of a minor official.
P.P. Ershov settles in Tobolsk,
where he once studied at the local gymnasium, and now began working as a teacher, then as its inspector and director.
In the teaching field, he proved himself to be a true professional, as evidenced by the reviews of his students, among whom was the future famous chemist D.I.
Mendeleev, who remembered Ershov with gratitude and subsequently procured him a pension, also helped in the re-release of The Little Humpbacked Horse.

Ershov dreamed of enlightening the peoples of Siberia, but circumstances - the death of relatives - mother, wife, children, misunderstanding of the gymnasium authorities - are replaced by a painful feeling of loneliness. Among the few joys is the gymnasium theater.

Ershov also does not abandon his poetic creativity. But none of the subsequent works - numerous poems, poems, stories, epigrams - managed to even come close to the glory of “The Little Humpbacked Horse”.

In 1869

Oda at the age of 54 P.P.
Ershov died. At the old cemetery in Tobolsk there is a monument with a remarkable inscription - “Peter Pavlovich Ershov, author of the folk tale “The Little Humpbacked Horse” .
Is it possible to appreciate more highly what the poet created!
